Power has to come up from below. CDI Electric recently completed a floor outlet installation at a manufacturing plant.  The photos  show the finished floor boxes and the concrete, conduit, and code work required to get there. ## Why floor outlets are a specialty install A floor outlet is not a wall outlet turned sideways. It sits in a walking surface inside a working plant, which changes the requirements: - **Rated enclosures, not standard boxes.** NEC 314.27(B) requires boxes listed specifically for floor installation. In industrial spaces, that usually means cast-iron or heavy-duty enclosures rated for foot traffic, forklift traffic, and washdown or scrub-water exposure. - **Concrete and structural coordination.** Core drilling and trenching have to clear post-tension cables, rebar, and structural slab elements.
